Laughing Is Important To Your Health

by Michael on April 3, 2012

I think laughter is such an overlooked part of living a healthy life. Many focus on eating right, but don’t realize that too much stress and can do more harm than eating one too many “Big Mac’s.” For the record, I’m a health nut, I work-out 5-6 times a week, eat lots of vegetables and fruits as well as lean meats, but I always make sure to get a dose of daily laughter.

Just like anything else it’s a learned behavior, but once you get in the habit it’s easy to do. Here are some of the things that I do to find a good laugh:

  • Buy a couple of joke books, for a few bucks you can find some cheap but funny books on EBay.
  • Check-out the $5 DVD bin at Walmart for some old comedy movies.
  • Go to a live humorous play, or see a stand-up comedy show.
  • Read a book by a humorous author: David Sedaris, Jean Shepherd, Molly Ivins, Susan Reinhardt, etc…
  • Search YouTube for funny video clips.

There are many, many ways to add a little laughter to your daily routine, you just have to put a little effort into it, and with the access to the internet it’s easier than ever.

“What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” Yiddish Proverb

To help you get started today, here’s a YouTube clip of a baby laughing, which I always find contagious. This clip has been around for a while, but every time I watch it I still get a good laugh from watching it.
